Find yourself doing the same walk over and over again?
This is for beginners who enjoy being in the countryside and would like to explore different areas but have little experience of reading maps. It will help you gain confidence in basic map-reading skills including understanding map symbols, finding out where you're allowed to walk and working out how long your walk should take. Starting from the beautiful village of Hathersage, this relaxing half-day walk is a perfect introduction to the area.

Navigation and compass skills (Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge)
Who is it for?
You're a regular walker who loves the great outdoors. You'd like to explore newer, more remote areas but know that compass skills are needed for navigation when the mist comes down. On this full-day session on the Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge you'll cover map-reading skills, use a compass to take bearings from the map and the landscape, make accurate timings and understand contours.

Dark Peak Explorer (Big Moor)

White Peak Explorer (Castleton)

The beautiful village of Castleton lies on the boundary between two very different landscapes – the White and Dark Peak. On this walk you’ll learn all about the ancient history of the area, witness the power of the Earth's geological forces, spot fossils in limestone and get magnificent views down into Cave Dale.
